Sully's Softball Team Splits Saturday Double Header
Posted by on
Poor weekend weather this summer meant that the regular season ended with a double header this past Saturday. Team Sully’s was looking to lock up another regular season title heading into the playoffs.
Not sure what threw off the Sully’s Crew in the first game, but the result was Team Sully’s first loss in several years. Perhaps it was the early start time that led to all the errors, missed cut off men, unnecessary outs on the base paths, etc. The Navy Blue Team (which may have been significantly aided with ringers) emerged victorious, jumping out to a huge lead and never looking back. Team Sully’s mounted a fierce comeback in the later innings but simply dug themselves too deep a hole early in the game.
Team Sully’s was ready to get back to winning after a few cold beers in-between games. After again digging themselves an early hole against the Yellow Team (Suffolk University), Team Sully’s stormed back and held on for an exciting victory. Team Sully’s finally captured the lead with a two out, two RBI triple by the Sully’s Crew own Frank Baird (making his West End Softball Debut). Suffolk had the tying run in scoring position and threatened to push the game to extra innings, but Team Sully’s buckled down and secured two routine outs for the win.
Saturday afternoon’s semifinal game will be a rematch against Suffolk University. The game starts at 3 PM at the Teddy Ebersol Field on the Esplanade so stop by and cheer on Team Sully’s.
